✓ Parks.
✓ Schools and children's playgrounds.
✓ Athletic tracks.
✓ Sports facilities.
✓ Outdoor carpets and tiles.
✓ Synthetic surfaces.
PROPERTIES
✓ Long pot life.
✓ UV resistance.
✓ Single component.
✓ Hydrolytic stability.
✓ Cold weather flexibility.
✓ Elasticity.
✓ Excellent freeze-thaw flexibility.
✓ Excellent binding property.
APPLICATION AREAS
✓ INNOPUR SPORT PU ALIPHATIC BINDER is used as a moisture curing binder for colored EPDM granules.
✓ Used for hand-applied in-situ EPDM layers for sports surfaces and children's playgrounds.
FEATURES
Due to its medium viscosity, INNOPUR SPORT PU ALIPHATIC BINDER mixes easily with EPDM granules and drainage from the granules is minimized. Due to its special field of application, INNOPUR SPORT PU ALIPHATIC BINDER offers a long processing time, allowing joints to be easily adjusted over a relatively long period. INNOPUR SPORT PU ALIPHATIC BINDER demonstrates good color stability. However, depending on the color of the EPDM, minor color variations of the installed elastic layer may occur.
APPLICATION
INNOPUR SPORT PU ALIPHATIC BINDER is a single-component material whose application temperature should be between 15 and 25 °C. The temperature of the application area must be at least 3 °C above the current dew point temperature. To lay an EPDM layer, mix EPDM (grain size 1-3.5 mm) and INNOPUR SPORT PU ALIPHATIC BINDER using a forced-action mixer rotating at approximately 300 rpm for 3-5 minutes. Ensure the mixer reaches the sides and bottom areas of the mixing vessel. The material is applied with a trowel. To achieve good surface strength, the rubber granule mat must be thoroughly compacted. Use a compaction roller if necessary. Special attention should be paid to construction joints (e.g., when changing EPDM color) which must be well troweled and compacted. Otherwise, defects may occur that could later lead to cracks on the surface. If the recommended amount of INNOPUR SPORT PU ALIPHATIC BINDER is reduced, mechanical properties will decrease and the requirements of DIN V 18035-6 specifications may not be met. Moisture speeds up the curing of the binder, making installation more difficult or even impossible, leading to an uneven surface and weak mat formation, so rubber granules must be completely dry. The working life and curing time of INNOPUR SPORT PU ALIPHATIC BINDER are influenced by ambient, material, and surface temperatures as well as humidity. At low temperatures and humidity, reaction times result in longer pot life, recoat intervals, and open time. At the same time, viscosity increases requiring longer mixing times and higher consumption. At high temperatures and humidity, reaction speed increases and the reverse is true.
If humidity is below 40%, careful misting of the elastic layer with water may be required to avoid unacceptable curing times, which could otherwise negatively affect mat quality. At lower temperatures, curing can be slightly accelerated using a catalyst. The required amount of catalyst depends on environmental conditions and must be determined on-site and may vary daily. As a guideline, 0.2% ACCELERATOR by weight based on binder percentage can be used. For installing an EPDM layer, we recommend using EPDM granules that have been tested and shown suitable for use with INNOPUR SPORT PU ALIPHATIC BINDER-1K.
CLEANING
Reusable tools should be thoroughly cleaned before curing occurs using CLEANER or other suitable solvents (e.g., butyl acetate). Never use water or alcohol-based solvents as a cleaner on uncured materials.
SUBSTRATE REQUIREMENTS
INNOPUR SPORT PU ALIPHATIC BINDER is normally used as a conditionally UV-resistant binder for installing an EPDM layer over a shock pad installed in-situ. Application area temperature must be at least 3 °C above the current dew point temperature.
